Does Rings of Brighthearth generate infinite colorless with Basalt Monolith?

Can I copy Basalt Monolith's ability with Rings of Brighthearth?

I've had an opponent tell me otherwise and seen two discussions say that this is true. Am I going crazy? lol

You can copy only the second ability of basalt monolith with rings of brightearth. The first one is a mana ability and cannot be copied. Regardless, these two cards can generate you infinite colorless mana.
