Does Phyrexian Unlife affect life lost or pay life?

So if I were to say pay ten billion life into Immolating Souleater it would not be converted into infect?

I take it all back. I just read a game mechanics thing and it says you can't pay life past your life total. I guess that make sense. You actually have to have life to pay life lol.

Actually, you can only pay costs (like that one) if you can actually pay the cost. Once you hit zero life you can't pay costs that require amounts of life greater than zero. So no, you can't make that Immolating Souleater into a 9183560934568217394126498/1. Unless you have a whole ton of life.

However some cards have life loss as an effect rather than a cost. e.g. Sign in Blood

hit neg life, platinum angle urself and have something with Celestial Mantle . card:Death's Shadow starts getiing +1/+1 for any life past 0 and if u double it he gets huge!!!!

supernick, your Life is never allowed to go below zero.
AegairEtapa, you can still cast Sign in Blood if you have zero life, since the life isn't part of the cost, it's part of the effect.

bcurran you do go below 0. Quite easily in fact. Even the card itself mentions that possibility.
And yes I am aware of that. That's why I mentioned it. It is what I was saying.

Your life total can be any integer. Unless you're playing with Un-rules, in which case you're a Little Girl .

The card text states that you don't lose the game for having zero or less life. Even after you have hit negatives you can continue to pay life (I would assume considering abilities like Platinum Angel 's allows you to continue playing after hitting the negatives) and not incur poison. Any damage dealt to you however would be dealt as poison. But you should not confuse damage with life loss.
