Does Pariah change damage source/color?

Asked by Unfallener 8 years ago

The particular example I can think of is if you were fighting against a burn deck, and you put Pariah on Kor Firewalker I'm familiar with DEBT, but my question is, would damage from burn spells done against you be considered red or white then?

Pariah doesn't change the color of the damage or the source. All it does is replaces any instance of you receiving damage with the enchanted creature. Everything else acts as normal.

Cool, so Pariah + Kor Firewalker is a completely valid way to shut down red burn decks then? Amazing!!!

So in your example, a red damage spell used on you will do nothing to your Pariahd Kor Firewalker since it has protection from red.

Yes. That is correct.

Redirection effects, including Pariah, merely redirect the damage from the original source and thus do not modify that damage in any way.

Prevention effects that are tied to damage effects, such as Deflecting Palm, prevent the damage from the original source and then serve as the origin for new damage and thus cause a change in the damage being dealt.
