Does my Endbringer kills or gets killed at the beginning of my oponnent's turn?

Asked by Dergam 6 years ago

If my oponnent has, for example, Sheoldred, Whispering One. I have an Endbringer with Basilisk Collar equipped. The Endbringer is tapped when I pass my turn. Does my Endbringer gets untapped, thus I tap it to kill Sheoldred, or does Sheoldred ability resolves first so that I have to sacrifice it before it deals damage? Thanks!

There's a small problem with your original scenario. At the beginning of your opponent's upkeep, their Sheoldred's first triggered ability will trigger, not the second one. Your opponent's Sheoldred will only make you sacrifice something at the beginning of your upkeep.

Let's fix the scenario and look at it two different ways:

  • At the end of your turn, you pass. Your opponent's turn starts and you untap Endbringer. At the beginning of your opponent's upkeep their Sheoldred, Whispering One triggers and they choose a target creature to bring back from the graveyard. When that trigger is put onto the stack, everyone gets a chance to make a response. You can kill Sheoldred now, but the trigger will still resolve and the targeted creature will get returned.
  • At the end of your opponent's turn, they pass. Your turn starts and you untap Endbringer. At the beginning of your upkeep your opponent's Sheoldred triggers. When that trigger is put onto the stack, everyone gets a chance to make a response. You can kill Sheoldred now, but the trigger will still resolve and you have to sacrifice a creature.

Thank you, it's very clear now. The actual scenario involved another card, but I get it now with your explanation :)
