Does Loxodon Smiter interact with Gnat Miser and the like?

I was thinking about this situation, where a player plays Gnat Miser or Locust Miser , then the opponent ends up discarding (at the end of their own turn, of course) due to to lowered card limit. If the opponent has a Loxodon Smiter and discards it, would it trigger (and go to the battlefield) due to the artificial limit being imposed by the opponent-controlled permanent?
My feeling is that it does not, and is dicarded normally, but I'm not sure what rule/errata might clarify this interaction. The reason I'm thinking this is because even if your hand limit is somehow reduced to 0, it is your own discard phase that is causing the actual discard.

It doesn't interact. The smiter requires to be discarded by an opponents effect to be put on the battlefield, but in the case you mentioned, the smiter is discarded due to exceeding maximum hand size. Even if your maximum hand size is reduced by your opponent, the action of discarding because you have too many cards in hand is not considered an action by your opponent.

Despite in theory causing you to discard by reducing your hand size, the ability itself isn't causing you to discard Loxodon Smiter . Also, permanents a player controls that have an activated ability an opponent can trigger by discarding (such as Oona's Prowler ) would result in discarding Loxodon Smiter to the graveyard as its owner controls the ability despite their opponent controlling the source.

Note that Loxodon Smiter does not have a triggered ability. The last ability is a static ability that defines a replacement effect.

I'm in agreement with you. While your abilities changed the maximum hand size, it was not your ability that directly caused the discard.
