Does it cost mana to unattach an equipment?
Asked by BossLeiser 12 years ago
I'll start with an example:
I was playtesting my prototype Kaalia of the Vast EDH deck with seven mana sources, my Kaalia, and a Whispersilk Cloak on the field. I had a Sword of War and Peace in my hand. If it doesn't cost any mana to remove the Cloak, then I could tap out to play and equip the Sword and then re-equip the Cloak.
Would I be able to make this play, or would I have to use mana to unattach the Whispersilk Cloak? Also, how much mana would I have to pay to remove the Cloak, its equip cost?

As doinitwrong said, there is currently no "unequip" ability. To remove equipment from a creature, you need to attach it to another creature, give the creature protection from the equipment, or destroy one of the two. You can't unequip it without doing one of those things.

You can't just unattach equipment. You can either equip it to another creature or destroy/sacrifice the equipment. There may be some spell out there that removes equipment, but I'm not currently aware of it.
