Does Doubling Season apply on Surge Node cast?

Asked by FadingFaces 9 years ago

I was wondering if the effect of Doubling Season applies when Surge Node is cast. I am not entirely sure, although I would say "yes".

Imagine playing Dismantle + Surge Node in one turn, 24 +1/+1/ or charge counters. Put it on an unblockable or trample creature, or even on a Darksteel Reactor to instantly win the game.

Doubling Season works with Surge Node. If a card says it enters with counters it counts as having them put on it. So Doubling Season will double the number. It isn't applied when Surge Node is cast. Only one spell has counters while it is on the stack. It applies right as Surge Node enters the battlefield. Dismantle would only make 12 counters because 2*6=12 if you only have one Doubling Season.

Hello lordoftheshadows,

thanks for your reply! Unfortunately, I don't quite understand. If the Surge Node would enter the battlefield with 12 charge counters, then why exactly would the 12 counters put by Dismantle not be doubled again by Doubling Season, making it 24 counters?

Oops. You are right about that. I missed the second raplacement by Doubling Season.
