Does discarding Vengevine to Lesser Masticore trigger Vengevine?
Asked by TheGamer 3 years ago
So let's say on Turn 2, I cast Burning-Tree Emissary and then follow it up with a Lesser Masticore, and to pay the additional cost of the Lesser Masticore, I discard a Vengevine. Would the Vengevine trigger?
I am unsure if the Vengevine is already in the graveyard when it sees me casting the Lesser Masticore, or if I am already casting the Lesser Masticore when I have to pay the additional cost of discarding the Vengevine.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, the Vengevine that you discard will "see" the Lesser Masticore being cast.
There are many steps in the casting of a spell, but the two that we are concerned with here are the last two. The penultimate step is the paying of all costs, which includes the discarding of a card in the case of Lesser Masticore. At this point, the Vengevine is in your graveyard. The final step in casting a spell is that spell is considered "cast". This is the point that Vengevine triggers. Since it is in the graveyard, it will trigger.
Hope this helps!!
