Does "choose a creature" equal "target"?

If I control only one creature and it is equipped with Whispersilk Cloak , and my opponent plays an Imperial Edict , does my creature die from the Edict?

Yes, it dies. Spells and abilities only target if they specifically use the word "target" in their text. Imperial Edict 's oracle text reads:

Target opponent chooses a creature they control. Destroy that creature.

So the player is targeted, but the creature is not.
