Does Avacyn, Angel of Hope protect Planeswalkers?

Asked by boneknitter 9 years ago

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but wanted to ask to be 100% sure. Would Avacyn, Angel of Hope make Planeswalkers indestructible since they're permanents? Or would they still be put into your graveyard when their loyalty reaches 0?

One of the state based actions that are checked is to see if a planeswalker has 0 loyalty counters. If this is true for any planeswalker, it is immediately put into its owner's graveyard as an SBA.

This is not destruction so Avacyn, Angel of Hope does nothing to prevent this from happening. Nor is this sacrificing it. It just happens.

Indestructible only protects against rules or effects that destroy something. It would protect it from Hero's Downfall, but wouldn't protect it from something Pathrazer of Ulamog's annihilator ability or reducing its loyalty counters.
