Do the replacement effects of Doubling Season and Parallel Lives stack?

Asked by Jimmy_Chinchila 8 years ago

If I have Doubling Season and Parallel Lives in play and I cast Dragon Fodder, for example, would the effects stack and give 4x the tokens, ie 8 goblin tokens, or do they have the same effect so only 2x the tokens would be made?

From the Gatherer rulings on Doubling Season (and, since the second line of rules text is the same as the rules text for Parallel Lives, it applies here too):

If there are two Doubling Seasons on the battlefield, then the number of tokens or counters is four times the original number. If there are three on the battlefield, then the number of tokens or counters is eight times the original number, and so on.

FYI: the reason it stacks is because after you apply a replacement effect to an event, you check again to see if there are any other unused replacement effects that could apply to the modified event. In your example whichever effect you apply first results in a token-making event, so that means the other effect can still be applied to it.

Rhadamanthus cool thank you for explaining the reasoning!
