Do artifacts retain +1 counters?

If I turn an artifact such as card:Akroma's Memorial into a creature with Karn, Silver Golem and then give it a +1 counter from Steel Overseer , does card:Akroma's Memorial lose the counter at the end of the turn or retain it for when it becomes a creature again?

It retains it. Even though only creatures get benefits from +1/+1 counters, such counters may still exist on other kinds of permanents and aren't removed if a permanent stops being a creature (see Raging Ravine ).
