Diffusion Sliver questions

Questions about what diffusion sliver hits. Card reads "Whenever a Sliver creature you control becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, counter that spell or ability unless its controller pays 2.".So Polukranos Monstrosity, they would have to pay an additional 2 correct? It's a targeting abilityWould this counter detention sphere unless they pay an additional 2? The wording on detention sphere is kind of funny since YOU exile. Thanks

Polukranos, World Eater
Detention Sphere

With Polukranos, World Eater , note that there are two abilities. There's monstrosity, and there's a triggered ability that triggers when Polukranos, World Eater becomes monstrous. Diffusion Sliver 's ability would apply to the triggered ability once for each sliver targeted.

Diffusion Sliver 's ability would also apply to Detention Sphere 's triggered ability. It wouldn't affect Detention Sphere as a spell, though.

Also, note that the player is always the acting agent for certain kinds of effects, but the spell or ability itself is always what targets.
