Did I just discover an infinite combo in standard?

Asked by DarkJaxter 12 years ago

Scion of Vitu-Ghazi is in play under my control. I cast Cackling Counterpart , targeting Scion of Vitu-Ghazi . I get the 1/1 Flying Bird token, then I populate. I target the Scion of Vitu-Ghazi token with the populate effect, repeating the process until I want to target a Bird token instead to end the loop.

You don't get anything except the Scion of Vitu-Ghazi token. Note that its ETB ability specifies that you only get a Bird and populate if you cast Scion of Vitu-Ghazi from your hand. You don't cast tokens, so you can't go infinite.

Also, populate doesn't target anything.

Unfortunately, no, because you have to cast it from your hand to get the populate effect.

There are a few infinite combos in Standard, though not many (if any) are 2-card combos
