Devotion's interaction with ETB abilities.
Asked by Ohthenoises 12 years ago
I KNOW this question was covered back when Theros was spoiled but I can't remember the answer, and I can't find the post.
If I were to control Ephara, God of the Polis , Horizon Chimera , and Archangel of Thune (giving me a total of 5 devotion to W/U) and were then to cast another Ephara, God of the Polis what would happen?
This is how I'm thinking it would go down: The second Ephara enters as a creature, legend rule takes place, killing one of them, and resulting in a card draw at the next turn's upkeep.
I guess what I'm asking is: For the purpose of "creature ETB" abilities does a god's own mana symbols count towards it entering the battlefield as a creature?

Thank you, I couldn't remember the timing on the devotion check.

Notice that you have have the original Ephara after Legend Rule has killed one of them. The new Ephara won't care about itself entering as a creature and the old Ephara has to be there at the beginning of the next upkeep to trigger.

At the time the second Ephara enters the battlefield you have 7 devotion, meaning it's a creature. A creature entered the battlefield, so any effect that cares about such an event will notice it.
