Crew Mechanic Clarification

Asked by Azorius_Arrester 8 years ago

I've been play testing a red white dwarf vehicle deck, in which, I'm really new to the 'crew' mechanic of vehicles. I'm seeking clarification on how crewing actually works after being questioned by a fellow player if I was doing it right.

For example, I have a Peacewalker Colossus on the battlefield which has Crew 4 which reads below...

Crew 4 (Tap any number of creatures you control with total power 4 or more: This Vehicle becomes an artifact creature until end of turn.)

Let's say that I have the following creatures on the battlefield: a Depala, Pilot Exemplar with power 3 and a Toolcraft Exemplar with power 1 or 2 with Depala's +1/+1 to each dwarf on the battlefield.

From my understanding, I can tap both creatures to crew my peacewalker because both their powers combined would be a power of 5. Is this correct?

Don't forget to link all your cards with double brackets:

Peacewalker Colossus

Depala, Pilot Exemplar

Toolcraft Exemplar

You can tap both your creatures or, since the latest you can crew a vehicle is the beginning of the combat phase, you could also choose to only tap Toolcraft since it will be a 4/3 at the beginning of the combat phase due to its +2/+1 ability for controlling an artifact plus Depala's ability of +1/+1.

Note that you would need to tape both creatures in order to block with the Peacewalker Colossus as the Toolcraft Exemplar only triggers on your turn and not your opponents'. Also, you are required to tap untapped creatures you control to crew a vehicle, even though the reminder text omits that point.
