Countering your own spell?

Asked by Wabbbit 12 years ago

Is it possible to counter your own spell with Counterlash , then get a card from your hand for free? So lets say I play a Gatecreeper Vine and I then respond to my own card and counter it with Counterlash . Can I then cast a creature in my hand without paying its mana cost?

I would assume so it says counter target spell and nothing about whether or not its your spell or an opponents that you counter

That is exactly how control is done!

As others have said, there is nothing preventing you from countering your own card. I have a friend who used to use Arcane Denial to counter his own Urza's Bauble.Your example, however, is slightly less card-advantaged. Still a decent deal to pull out a Worldspine Wurm or a legendary eldrazi.

Gotcha. I just wanted to make sure that there wasn't some rule that prevented me from countering my own spell. Thanks you guys!
