Copying Lost Auramancers?
Asked by lendrick 12 years ago
If I had a Lost Auramancers and Clone him would the Clone sacrificed because it wouldn't copy the vanishing counters?
Vanishing says "When this permanent enters play."
Since Clone ETBs as a copy of any creature, it would enter as a copy of Lost Auramancers and have 3 counters on it.

The clone copies any "as [this creature] enters the battlefield" or "[this creature] enters the battlefield with" abilities of the creature you copy. So, as with the Auramancers, the Clone will enter the battlefield with 3 Time Counters.

Because part of the printed card being copied states that "this card enters the battlefield with three time counters on it" Clone would enter with the counters

Both the Clone 's copy ability and the entering with counters part of Vanishing are types of replacement effects (you can usually identify them by the words "with", "as", "instead", or "prevent" somewhere in the text), and both affect how the creature enters the battlefield.
After you apply a replacement effect to an event, you check again to see if there are any others that would apply to the modified event. So after you apply Clone 's copy effect, you see that now you have to apply Vanishing's counter-adding effect. Your new copy of Lost Auramancers will enter the battlefield with 3 time counters.
