Copying An Enchanted Creature
Asked by onthestack 13 years ago
If my opponent Phantasmal Image s my Elite Inquisitor with Angelic Destiny enchanted, does he just copy the Elite Inquisitor ? Or does he get all the enchanted abilities as well?

When you enchant a creature, you give that creature those abilities as well as what it already has, Phantasmal Image is copying the creature, and all the Abilities attached to the creature. I would have thought that means you get its extra abilities from the enchantment as well. I could be wrong, but that's how I thought it would work

@LumnutMTGcards
When you enchant a creature, you give it bonuses (be them abilities granted or bonuses to P/T). However when you copy something, you don't copy it as it currently appears with all buffs/enchantments/equipment bonuses. You copy its copiable characteristics.If you read 706.2, you'll notice that things which modify the object but are not other copy effects, nor by certain abilities (mentioned below, which enchantments are specifically mentioned) are not copied.
706.2 .......The copiable values are the values derived from the text printed on the object (that text being name, mana cost, color indicator, card type, subtype, supertype, expansion symbol, rules text, power, toughness, and/or loyalty), as modified by other copy effects, by as . . . enters the battlefield and as . . . is turned face up abilities that set characteristics, and by abilities that caused the object to be face down. Other effects (including type-changing and text-changing effects), status, and counters are not copied.

Cheers, I was just outlining how I thought it would work. Does that extend to Mind control? If I mind control a creature don't I get its enchantments as well?

Correct. If you mind control a creature you do not gain control of the enchantments attached to it. In the case of an Angelic Destiny attached to the mind controlled creature, this won't matter as the Angelic Destiny gives the boost and abilities to the creature so the creature you now control still gets +4/+4, flying, first strike and is still an angel in addition to its other types.
However if you MC a creature with spirit link enchanting it, when it deals damage the controller of the enchantment, not you, will gain the life

Correction on my last post. I misread the question to read "If I mind control a creature I don't get its enchantments as well?"
Not how it actually reads. my comment about correct is meaning "Yes, if you mind control a creature, you -do not- get control of the enchantments attached to it. You only gain control of the creature" (mind control states you gain control of enchanted creature, and that is all it does)

The Phantasmal Image
will only have the properties of the card it copied. None of the buffs from static effects (enchantments, artifacts, field effects, etc.) will carry over to the copy.
