Combat lifelink stacking

Asked by Warxuaroz 8 years ago

I'm in a cobat with Ageless Entity + Behemoth Sledge + two counters (8/8 lifelink trample) and Rhox Faithmender attacking. My opponent blocks Ageless Entity with Silverpelt Werewolf + Titanic Growth. Is there a chance any chance I can buff Ageless Entity with Rhox's attack (life gain) before AA gets killed?

no, the damage is dealt all together triggering the AA to put counters on itself. The lethal damage state based effect removes the AA from play before the counters get added.

510.2. ... all combat damage thats been assigned is dealt simultaneously. This turn-based action doesnt use the stack. No player has the chance to cast spells or activate abilities between the time combat damage is assigned and the time its dealt.

Ageless Entity (with 2 +1/+1 counters ) is equipped with Behemoth Sledge and attacking with a Rhox Faithmender.

Ageless Entity is blocked by a +3/+3 Silverpelt Werewolf.

All combat damage is dealt simultaneously between all attacking and blocking creatures. Only after all damage is dealt does lifelink happen. Since it is a static ability, it just happens. There will not be a buff from the Rhox Faithmender before the damage is dealt.

Note: If Ageless Entity was blocked by a Terra Stomper, the Entity would die as a state based action before its triggered ability would be put on to the stack. It would not get the +1/+1 counters because it would have 8 damage marked on it (lethal damage) and be put into your graveyard as a state based action.

Note Note: If the Rhox Faithmender had first strike somehow, then your Ageless Entity would get a buff, because it's triggered ability would happen during the first combat damage step, and it would then be larger when the regular combat step rolls around.
