Colorless EDH/Commander Deck

Asked by Sherpa_Rage 12 years ago

Would it be possible with in the rules of EDH/Commander to run a solid colorless deck? As far as I know the rules simply say that you cannot use a color that is not on your general/commander. So for example if you are running a say Darksteel Colosus as a general then you simply run colorless cards (with no colors listed anywhere on the card at all, per the EDH/Commander rules). Is this possible? I realize it may not make sense or be the best deck but if it can be done it seems like a fun idea to toy with.

Ignoring the fact that the Colossus isn't legendary (an Eldrazi Titan is a better choice, anyway), you are completely correct. So long as the land doesn't have any colored mana symbols on it or explicitly state it has a color, it will have no color identity and thus be completely legal in you colorless EDH deck.

Thanks for the prompt response. I guess I am more tired than thought considering I just though Darksteel was a Legendary Creature, a flub on my part.

I've seen a really impressive Karn, Silver Golem commander deck. Also don't forget that Emrakul, the Aeons Torn is banned in commander.

The no basic lands part is the hardest condition to meet.

What tynansdtm said. It's definitely tricky to assemble a good colorless identity mana base, let alone one on a budget.
