can you sacrifice before homeward path resolves

so say i have home ward path and my opponent casts Grab the Reins without entwine to take over a 4/4 creature of mine then i use Homeward Path to take it back can he use Ashnod's Altar to sacrifice my creature before i get it back?

The only kind of ability that resolves immediately after being activated is a mana ability (adds mana to your mana pool, doesn't target, isn't a planeswalker ability). For everything else, players are allowed to respond before the ability resolves. When you activate Homeward Path , your opponent is allowed to respond by activating Ashnod's Altar .

When a spell or ability starts to resolve, no one has the opportunity to make any more responses until it's completely finished resolving. For an entwined Grab the Reins , there's no opportunity to respond in-between the creature changing control and something being sacrificed.
