Can you give Nekusar infect?

Asked by BlackSirius 3 years ago

This is a two part question: can I give Nekusar infect, and if so can I double the damage to increase poison counters? I understand Nekusar can have infect but can his ability trigger for infect. Nekusar reads: "Whenever an opponent draws a card, Nekusar, The Mindrazer deals 1 damage to that player." With that, can I equip Nekusar with Glistening Oil and then use an effect like Dictate of the Twin Gods to double the amount of poison counters that player receives?

Yes, Infect applies to all damage, not just combat damage. And yes, you can double it up. The key thing to notice is most damage increasers say "if X would deal damage..." Infect modifies how damage is dealt, but doesn't replace the event entirely.

Also, you can link to cards by putting 2x brackets (these guys > [, ]) on either side--four total--of the card's full name. All this and more can be found in the "Formatting Tips" below the comment box

Yes. The reason is that infect doesn't replace damage. Damage dealt by a source with infect is still damage, but instead of marking damage in creatures and causing players to lose life, it puts -1/-1 counters on creatures and poison counters on players.

Since infect damage is still damage, it can be increased by cards like Dictate of the Twin Gods or Torbran, Thane of Red Fell . The combo you have in mind will work.
