Can what fetches fetch avoid nukes like flickering a permanent does?

Asked by nickiru 10 years ago

If I bust, Boom/Bust , and they fetch in response a land, does that land survive?

Is this similar or not to flickering with something like Cloudshift ?

No. Bust doesn't target anything, it just destroys all lands as it resolves. The new land pulled up by the fetch is definitely a land, so it will get destroyed.

If you want to compare it to Cloudshift, then it's like playing Cloudshift in response to a Supreme Verdict . The creature leaves and then returns to the battlefield as Cloudshift resolves, which means it will be destroyed when Verdict finally resolves.

I believe that Cloudshift would save you from something that said "target" As what you targeted with the Cloudshift would change zones so your opponents spell would no longer have a legal target and would fizzle.

What would happen is this: Boom/Bust would go on the stack, and your opponent cracks a fetch in response. Their fetch activation would resolve first, putting a new land into play. Then Boom/Bust would resolve, destroying all lands, including the one put onto the battlefield with the fetch.

lol, I completely agree with the logic and order, I just have always thought that flickering avoided nukes as well for some reason. Thanks for clearing that up.
