Can Spellskite Steal Equipment?

Can Spellskite steal equipment when one goes to equip it to something? I am sure he can't but I just want to be certain.

Spellskite 's ability only works if it is a valid target. Spellskite is not a valid target for your opponent's equipment, but it is a valid target for your own.

702.6a Equip is an activated ability of Equipment cards. Equip [cost] means [Cost]: Attach this permanent to target creature you control. Activate this ability only any time you could cast a sorcery.
There may be limited circumstances where you will want to change the target of an equipment to spellskite on-the-fly like that, but I can't think of one at the moment.

no, you can not use Spellskite to equip an opponents equipment.

You can use it to change the target of your equip.

For example, If I equip a Squadron Hawk with a Sword of Vengeance then my opponent bolts the hawk with an instant, I can pay 1B or 2 life to equip it to another creature.

I could not, however, steal a Sword of Vengeance from my opponent when they pay the equip cost for their creature.

To be a bit more specific, you can activate Spellskite's ability whether Spellskite is a valid target or not, but it won't do anything:

You can activate Spellskite's ability even if Spellskite wouldn't be a legal target for the spell or ability. However, the target of that spell or ability will remain unchanged.
