Can Ria Ivor, Bane of Bladehold target an oponent creature with her ability?

Asked by pedroedmarcos 2 years ago

Hey there,

I'm confused if its a legal target or not. Ria Ivor says "the next time target creature would deal combat damage to one or more players this combat, prevent that damage..." So my question is, can I choose my oponents creature as target for this trigger in my combat phase? Just wondering.

You can do that, but you'll have to do something extra if you want to get the other parts of the effect. Because the ability doesn't specify who has to control the targeted creature that means it can target any creature. However, you'd have to jump through some hoops to get an opponent's creature to deal combat damage to a player during your turn (Ray of Command etc. during the beginning of combat step, but you could have just used Threaten etc. during your main phase).
