Can I play Collected Company in response to a Perilous Vault activation?

If my opponent activates Perilous Vault, can I play Collected Company in response to the activation, find reclamation sage and play it to destroy the vault before it wipes? Or would the vaults activation still follow through because the cost was payed?

The vault is already exiled as part of paying the cost for the ability - everything before the colon in the text is part of the cost (5, tap, exile). Even if it was not, abilities on the stack exist independantly of their sources, so that line of play would just get your reclamation sage exiled.
