Can I Mutagenic Growth my Death Shadow as it hits the battlefield with 13 life?

If I have 13 life and play Death's Shadow before it dies I can pay 2 life and cast Mutagenic Growth to keep my Death Shadow alive?

No, the Death's Shadow will be put into your graveyard for having 0 toughness as a state-based action before you get priority to cast a spell.

No.

Death's Shadow will die before you can save it. State-based actions are checked any time a player would receive priority. They check for things like creatures having more damage marked on them than they have toughness, creatures with 0 or less toughness die, etc.

In the case of Death's Shadow, the game will see that it has 0 toughness and put it in the graveyard before you have priority to cast Mutagenic Growth on it.
