Can I kill a creature in response to a pump spell?

Asked by MorgsJ 7 years ago

I'm playing my mono red madness deck against a friend. He has his Krallenhorde Howler  Flip attacking. I have a Ravenous Bloodseeker but I don't block. He pumps it with Titan's Strength. Before that resolves can I Fiery Temper to kill it?

I know this is very simple but I'm going to my first fnm and don't want to embarrass myself by not knowing simple rules.

Also to expand this to a general question, when do creatures die?

Yes. Titan's Strength must resolve before it takes effect. When your opponent casts Titan's Strength and passes priority, you can respond by casting Fiery Temper.

Creatures die as a state-based action (not including sacrifices, which happen immediately). SBAs are performed before a player gets priority. So when Fiery Temper resolves, SBAs will be performed and Krallenhorde Howler  Flip will be destroyed because it has lethal damage marked on it. Titan's Strength will then fizzle because its target is illegal.
