Can I flicker my Thragtusk multiple times if I cast a board wipe with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and multiple Restoration Angels on the battlefield?

Asked by haowbin 12 years ago

Suppose I have on the battlefield Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, 2 Restoration Angels and a Thragtusk and I decide to cast Supreme Verdict.

I understand that all creatures except for Mikaeus returns to the battlefield because of the Undying effect. What I want to know is whether or not I can flicker my Thragtusk more than once with each Restoration Angel coming on to the battlefield or is this not possible as they all enter the battlefield at the same time?

They won't enter at the same time. Undying is a triggered ability. Each creature with undying (in this case, both Restoration Angel s and the Thragtusk ) will die from Supreme Verdict , and all of their undying abilities will trigger. You control all of these abilities, so you choose the order in which they are placed on the stack.

Ideally, you would stack the Restoration Angel s' abilities, then Thragtusk 's ability. That would cause Thragtusk to return to the battlefield first, which in turn causes its ETB ability to trigger. After Thragtusk 's ETB ability resolves, one Restoration Angel will ETB from undying and its ETB ability will trigger. You target Thragtusk , blinking it when the ability resolves. This triggers Thragtusk 's LTB and ETB abilities, which you stack in any order. Once those two abilities have resolved, you resolve the last undying ability and return the final Restoration Angel , which blinks Thragtusk once more.

If all the creatures did enter the battlefield at the same time (because of Living Death , for example), then their ETB abilities would trigger simultaneously, and you would choose how to stack them. However, both Restoration Angel s' abilities would have to target the Thragtusk , and the bottom one on the stack would fizzle because its target would be illegal on resolution (the first Restoration Angel would blink Thragtusk , then the second Restoration Angel would be left targeting a creature that left the battlefield).

Epochalyptik With regards to the Living Death example. Could you get the same desired effect by having one Restoration Angel targeting Thragtusk and the other targeting the first Restoration Angel to in turn bounce Thragtusk again?

Bah, forgot about the non-Angel part. Nevermind.
