Bribery and Kicker Costs

Asked by Bauhom 11 years ago

If I cast Bribery and choose my opponent's Gatekeeper of Malakir , can I pay the kicker cost on the Gatekeeper? I'm guessing no, because I'm not "casting" the Gatekeeper?

You are correct. You put the creature card directly onto the battlefield during Bribery 's resolution. You aren't instructed to cast anything, so you don't. Kicker costs may only be paid as additional costs during the casting process, so they aren't applicable.

No, and for the reason you said

702.31a Kicker is a static ability that functions while the spell with kicker is on the stack. "Kicker [cost]" means "You may pay an additional [cost] as you cast this spell.".

117.8. Some spells and abilities have additional costs. An additional cost is a cost listed in a spell's rules text, or applied to a spell or ability from another effect, that its controller must pay at the same time that player pays the spell's mana cost or the ability's activation cost.

You care correct. If you use something like Unexpected Results to "reveal it" you cast it without paying its mana cost, but you can STILL cast the kicker if you "cast" the spell
