Brago with Oblivion Ring and Relic Warder for Permanent Exile?

Asked by Asmodeus_82 6 years ago

So I know that if you have a Leonin Relic-Warder and Oblivion Ring out you can permanently exile something by stacking the triggers so that the Oblivion Ring leaves play before its exile ETB resolves.

What I want to know is whether this is possible once the Oblivion Ring is already exiled under the Relic Warder. So the situation is there is a Leonin Relic-Warder which as exiled an Oblivion Ring and Brago, King Eternal has just dealt combat damage, His trigger goes on the stack, I target the Relic Warder, can I stack my triggers in such as way that the Oblivion Ring Permanently exiles a something? If so how do you stack the triggers?

I think it doesn't work because you have to put all the triggers on the stack right?

So Warder leaves and enters, I put both of these triggers on the stack

W LeavesW Enters

Leaves resolves and O'ring Enters so now it is

O EntersW Enters

O'ring resolves and exiles something and W Enters exiling the O'ring, returning the permanent O'ring exiled. So I can't stack it properly?

But I think I can use the O'ring to permanently exile something with the Warder and alternate between the two? The stack is the same as above except O'ring targets the warder so the warder leaves before its entry trigger resoves? This way I can exile an artifact/enchantment every other combat and a permanent every other combat?

Leonin Relic-Warder won't be able to target the Oblivion Ring it's exiling. If a triggered ability has targets then you need to choose the targets at the time you put it onto the stack. When you put the Warder's LTB and ETB triggers onto the stack, Oblivion Ring isn't on the battlefield yet so you can't choose it as a target for the ETB.

But yes, you can alternate back and forth between an artifact/enchantment and a permanent. From the starting position in your question, you put Warder's LTB on top of the stack, let it resolve and return the Ring, then target Warder with the Ring's ETB. When Warder gets exiled its LTB will return nothing and when its ETB finally resolves the targeted artifact/enchantment will be exiled with no way to return. You would follow a similar process to exile something with the Ring next turn.
