Brago, King Eternal and protection

Asked by TheMagi 9 years ago

If Brago, King Eternal has protection from blue or white or both, will he still be able to flicker himself(at the same time as the thing that gives him protection)? I'm thinking of something like Spectra Ward or Alexi's Cloak

One of the things protection specifically stops is targeting (the "T" in D.E.B.T.). If Brago, King Eternal has protection from one of his own qualities at the time you're supposed to choose targets for his ability then you can't choose him. The shroud granted by Alexi's Cloak and similar effects presents the same problem.

Also, even if you were able to flicker him, there's the problem you get of the auras either falling off and going to the graveyard if you don't flicker them as well, or not being able to come back enchanting Brago if you do flicker them.

For instance if you were using Gift of Immortality on Brago. If you flicker just Brago using his ability, he comes back as a different object that GoI isn't attached to, and GoI is put in your graveyard as a state based action.

If you flicker both Brago and GoI, then they reenter at the same time; in this case GoI needs a creature to enchant that is already on the battlefield (this does get around shroud and hexproof, btw), but since Brago hasn't reentered the battlefield by the time you need to choose, he and any other creatures he flickered are not a valid choices, so GoI will need to enchant something else and will simply stay in exile if there are no creatures it can enchant.

Long story short: Auras don't typically play nice with Brago. I only run Corrupted Conscience in my EDH list.

Brago works well with all control enchantments! You get to change which creatures they are attached to and can even get around shroud and hexproof because of it.
