Blood Bairn - Tenacious Dead combo

Asked by paradigmx 11 years ago

I'm still new to the mechanics and I was wondering if I could sacrifice Tenacious Dead to give Blood Bairn +2/+2, then pay it's cost to return it to the battlefield tapped.

Essentially, can I sacrifice a creature and pay it's regen cost, or does sacrificing override it's other abilities?

Yes you can sacrifice Tenacious Dead with Blood Bairn and return it to the field for the 1B cost.

Tenacious Dead doesn't actually have the regenerate keyword. It says "When" this creature dies, you may pay 1B and return it to the battlefield tapped under its owner's control.

Oh, and actually Regenerating a creature will not stop a creature from being sent to the graveyard when sacrificed.

Regenerate: If this creature was regenerated and would be destroyed, instead, tap it, remove it from combat, and remove all damage from it.

Sacrificing is not destroying. So, no. Regenerating does not stop it from being sent to the graveyard.

As a side note, things that regenerate never actually go to the graveyard. They just get all damage marked on them removed and then removed from combat (if in it) and tapped. There is a large difference because a card like Beckon Apparition could remove it from the game in response to you trying to bring back the skeleton. Not to mention cards like Rest in Peace would be able to stop anything from going to the graveyard.
