Blightsteel Colossus + Shape Anew
Asked by WorkAround 14 years ago
I got my blightsteel Colossus into the battle field with Shape Anew. I was playing against a infect deck that made my blightsteel a 2/2. I then played Call to mind to bring back Shape Anew then I played it on blightsteel Colossus. Would blightsteel be put into the deck before or after the Shape Anew gets me to reveal cards from to of my deck until I get a artifact. If I play blightsteel I will get him back to 11/11?
The Blightsteel Colossus 's ability will go to the stack the moment you sacrifice it for Shape Anew , this means that the Colossus ability would always resolve after the Shape Anew's effect took place.
Here's the rule on the triggered effects to the stack
603.3. Once an ability has triggered, its controller puts it on the stack as an object thats not a card the next time a player would receive priority. See rule 116, Timing and Priority. The ability becomes the topmost object on the stack. It has the text of the ability that created it, and no other characteristics. It remains on the stack until its countered, it resolves, a rule causes it to be removed from the stack, or an effect moves it elsewhere.

What Tezz said was just what my opponent said. I went with it and I ended up getting my second Blightsteel Colossus onto the field

While Tezz is correct about triggered abilities not resolving during the resolution of another effect, both Tezz and your opponent were wrong in that Blightsteel Colossus does NOT create a triggered ability, but instead a replacement effect.
Replacement affects change the way cards interact with each other and with zones of the game. This is different from triggered abilities in that they aren't created by an effect and don't use the stack. For an example of the latter, check out one of the eldrazi, like Emrakul, the Aeons Torn .
So it's kind of like the text on BSC says "Hey, instead of putting me into a graveyard, I'm going to get shuffled back into your library instead", not "Hey, I'm in the graveyard now, so why don't you just shuffle me back into your library".

AHH AHH AHH this is what happens when i don't actually read the card. Jimmuh is right, yeah. I confused it with the legendary Eldrazi version.

Jummuh or sporkife tell me what that means in a sentence. Do I get the card put into my deck then shuffle and show card from top of deck or can I just put it on top of my deck then start showing it and playing it?

my bad haha.
You cast Shape Anew targeting Blightsteel Colossus . The Shape Anew starts resolving. At the beginning of the resolution, it causes you to sacrifice the Blightsteel Colossus . The resolution of the Shape Anew now pauses because the replacement effect on Blightsteel Colossus requires that you shuffle it back into your library. Once it's shuffled in, Shape Anew continues resolving, giving you the possibility of turning up the Blightsteel Colossus you shuffled back in.
summary: it goes back in before the Shape Anew finishes resolving, so you still have to reveal, but it's there to be found.

I believe that the Blightsteel Colossus 's ability will trigger before Shape Anew 's ability occurs. Since it state when it enters the graveyard, and I think that it enters the graveyard before you search.
I am not entirely sure but that is what I think.
