Astral cornucopia

Right im just wondering about this card basically i pay X for it so i say tap 10 does that mean that whenever i choose to tap this and say choose green i get 10 green mana into my mana pool no questions asked? also do the charge counters degrade with use ? i feel this card is too good to be true haha

What happens when you cast Astral Cornucopia is you choose a value for X- let's say 3.
You then pay the mana cost, which is XXX. So you would pay 3+3+3, or 9.
Astral Cornucopia would then enter the battlefield with X charge counters, so 3 charge counters.

noo man! for each charge counter you need 3 manas! if you wanted 4 charge counters you need to cast it with 12.

Supgusy is right. The formula is XXX. Basically, divide the total mana tapped to cast Astral Cornucopia by 3. For instance, If I were to tap 9 mana to cast Astral Cornucopia , it would enter the battlefield with 3 charge counters. This means that you could tap Astral Cornucopia for 3 mana of the chosen color. This effect, though alright on its own, is best paired with the effect proliferate, or cards like Coretapper to accelerate the amount of charge counters, and therefore, the potential mana.
