Are Sylvan Caryatid killed by Crux of Fate?
Asked by Podimus 10 years ago
A friend and I had this debate, and when I looked it up, the answer I found was No. Then another cat I play with, who frequents tourneys and other events where judges are present says they are indeed killed by Crux, saying "it doesn't target, so Hexproof doesn't count.", which, makes No sense to me... it targets ALL CREATURES... How is that not a target? Somebody help before my head pops.
Hexproof ruling:
Hexproof is a static ability that means that the affected permanent or player cannot be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control, but can still be target by spells or abilities you control.
The word target is vital in the ruling. When the card has 'target' printed, then it cant target cards with shroud and hexproof, as BlueScope pointed out.
Cyclonic Rift is a great example where it's single target ability says 'target', but when it's cast for it's overload costs the target is replaced by each. Then Hexproof no longer protects your cards.

OK, thanks guys. And my bad on not linking cards, First time posting anything on this site.
BlueScope says... Accepted answer #1
Please link all cards relevant to your question:
Sylvan Caryatid
Crux of Fate
Hexproof prevents permanents from being targetted, and Crux of Fate doesn't target. A spell or ability only targets if it uses the word "target". If it instead uses "all" or "each", for example, nothing is being targetted, and hexproof has no effect.
In the same manner, Crux of Fate destroys creatures that have protection from black, for example.
