Another Question about Mass Polymorph
Asked by drhumbra 13 years ago
So, I know that when I cast Mass Polymorph , all of the creatures get put into play at the same time and I get to choose how "enters the battlefield" effects go on the stack. Therefore, do I announce the effects in reverse order, or the order the effects go off?
I am thinking that the effects use the stack and therefore would resolve in reverse order (last in, first out).
Example: 2 massacres-wurm, 1 terrastodon, and 1 Grave Titan . Should I announce the Massacre Wurm as first or last to get the best benefit of its ability?

You can do either, but you have to specify which you are doing. Technically speaking, you are supposed to specify what order things go to the stack and the stack determines what order they come into play with, but unless you're playing in a sanctioned game, it has the same effect.
Massacre Wurm Terastodon Grave Titan .
You want Terastodon to hit the board first, so it goes last, then two Massacre Wurms before it, and Grave Titan first to the stack. That gives you 3 elephants that die from the two massacre wurms, netting 4 life a piece.

Abilities and spells resolve in the reverse order they are put onto the stack.
For example, If you had the Terastodon 's ability trigger first, then the 2 Massacre Wurm s and then the Grave Titan , they would resolve in the opposite order they went on. so you would get your 2 2/2s, then creatures your opponents control would get -2/-2, and then again, and then you would blow up 3 noncreature permanents.
However, if you put the grave titan, then the wurms, THEN the terastodon ability onto the stack, then you would destroy 3 noncreature permanents, they would get three elephants, which would die from the wurms, then you'd get your 2/2 zombies.

"X triggers, Y's trigger stacks on top, Z's trigger stacks on top of that" is typically how I would approach something like that. This way, if your opponent is used to another way, they still understand which one is on top of the stack.
