Animar abilities

I’m pretty new to magic. Do you have to add counters on Animar, Soul of Elements using his first ability to lower casting costs or can I use Increasing Savagery
This tends to become the whole basis behind most Animar decks. I've got one that includes Increasing Savagery among other things to throw down extra counters.

Animar only cares about the number of +1/+1 counters on it, not the source of the counters. Counters from Increasing Savagery will reduce the cost of casting other creature spells.
