Did WotC finally get it right with Dominaria Remastered?

After the debacle of Magic 30, the relative overall weakness of 2022 standard sets and the horrifyingly inconsistent EV of double masters 2022, I was pretty skeptical about Dominaria Remastered, but now having watched several collector boxes opened on WhatNot, and grabbing 6 packs myself, I’m shocked to say I think they finally got it right with this set.

EV is incredibly consistent over the case-plus I’ve watched being opened, and the hit rate on the staples (tutors, FoW, Urza, etc. as well as staple commons and uncommons) appears to support what Mark Rosewater eluded to recently, with substantive reprints to reduce overall secondary cost of those format staples. I’m pleasantly surprised even as my wallet says ouch.

Anyone else excited and/or relieved to see WotC actually deliver on promises with a better product, or do you think I’m wearing rose colored glasses? (Pun intended)

Not really excited for it. I think the packs are priced at a premium which goes against my recent trend of picking up a pack or two once a week for under $10.

I might grab a couple cards if it tanks the secondary market price and it is a staple I want.

Dominaria remastered is just like Time Spiral remastered from 2 years ago, except maybe a slightly better set overall. It's nothing revolutionary, it just looks like a much better product compared to the trash that was 30th anniversary. However, the 40k decks last year were great, and I think mostly everyone liked Brothers War. From my observation, WOTC is really trying to release solid, exciting, fair products for their customers, but Hasbro keeps breathing down their neck asking "more, more, more". The money is never enough for Hasbro, as they use the success of Magic to keep their other lesser IPs afloat (MLP, Transformers, etc). Bringing it back together though, Dominaria remastered does look like an awesome set. Almost every mythic and rare is legitimately useful with very few "dud" or "draft chaff" rares. So I'll definitely be picking up a box, but I'm not gonna open it, sit on it like I did with the original mystery booster. That's just my 2 cents.

I like the feedback, and I’m very interested in everyone’s perspective. I will say after watching 8+ collector boxes opened and grabbing six packs myself, I’ve never seen the consistency in pulls from a sealed Magic product like this before. My six packs have been incredible (FA Force of Will, retro Vampiric Tutor, FA Worldly Tutor, foil Mystical Tutor, full art Urza’s Incubator, retro No Mercy, FA Birds of Paradise, retro foil Test of Endurance, FA foil Chainer, Dementia Master, FA Wrath of God, etc.), but the other packs I’ve watched have been nearly as consistent. I don’t think the experience will be that similar to TSR, particularly for the collectors packs. I’m still a bit dumbfounded by how consistently good the packs have been, so take that for what it’s worth.

It's great to hear that you have had a positive experience with Dominaria Remastered and that the set seems to have met your expectations

I did like 2XM, even if it's value was low... even if the overall set was bad, there was some high-power singles / reprints that commander needed such as Smothering Tithe and Mana Crypt. I do agree that Dominaria Remastered is a good set though, always love to see the classic mtg setting.

Still waiting for Fallen Empires remastered though...
