Getting Into Pauper

Pauper forum

So I spend most of my MTG money on paper decks and have only really played online with Cockatrice. I want to get a MTGO account because it seems like a good bit of fun, but I don't wanna spend too much money on it so Pauper sounds great. Obviously I know what Pauper is but what I'm confused about is that I heard some uncommons are legal in the format. If this is true where can I find a list with the legal uncommons?

The only uncommons that are legal are those that have at some point in time been printed at common. For example Rancor and Oblivion Ring have been most recently printed at uncommon, but one or more printings in the past have been common

It's a crazy fast format, most of the time. Could be because I play Wee Fiend... But that's neither here nor there.

That'll give you a good idea what you'll be up against in the format, too.

This is odd. I was just thinking about getting in to pauper. It will be easy. MTGO is 10 dollar one time fee. You get over 300 cards I believe with initial setup. You buy cards from bots on MTGO. They are bascially stores that players set up and have an automated card buy/sell mechanic and the computer does it for them. Most commons range from 2 cents all the way up to maybe 50 cents for the real good ones. Some may go higher than that but the commons are usually very very low in price. There is a bot that gives you 64 free commons a month but it's hard to get in the bot because so many people want in. Sometimes I have tried 100 times just clicking "open trade" with the bot with no success. Other times just one click works. The name of the bot is mtgotradersfreebot. I have an MTGO account and I play all the time. PM me if you get it and we can exchange user names and I can help you out.

You'd be surprised how much you have to pay for certain strong pauper cards. Some commons from top-tier decks can cost $5 or more on MTGO.

meh $5 is fine, $40 is where I might need to gasp and sleep on it lol

Yeah, but I hate paying $5 for an online card that would cost me 50c IRL.

I'd really love to see pauper leagues sprout up in LGS'. That would be awesome!

There are two LGSs that run pauper leagues where I live. Attendance is pretty low right now though, but hopefully it'll pick up.

Why not ask you local store if they will run a league?
