Why is there such a limited selection of cards in arena?

I have been searching for a bunch of cards to craft yet cannot find any of them not sure if I'm searching wrong or what. Any of the mystic swords. And a few others I can't remember right now

Well, arena is standard and historic only. Are you searching for older cards?

Yes some older ones. Was searching for Sword of Light and Shadow and Sword of Truth and Justice

Arena just won't have them. If you really want to play online with those cards you'd have to play Magic Online.

Arena initially had only cards from the moment it was launched and onwards. They've started releasing expansions with older cards, both in the "Remastered" sets and the Historic Anthologies, but it'll be a long time before they have most of the cards in the game and they're never going to add every card. I think they'll eventually have nearly everything in Modern, though, which will probably include the swords.

ellie-is I'm not sure that they're ever going to get most of modern on arena. What I can see happening though is them trying to get pioneer playable on arena, but even that would be a long term project

GenericToaster: They're definitely going to have pioneer playable at one point. While I haven't read any sources to confirm the "most of Modern" thing (but neither have I read any saying it won't be the case), it makes sense to me because of Time Spiral Remastered. Plenty of non-pioneer cards there, which means Arena is willing to go beyond Pioneer and into Modern territory. Doubt they're ever going to release any sets older than Modern, though.

But yeah, definitely a long term project! They're releasing like, one or two remastered sets per year? Since those sets include entire blocks, depending on their release schedule it could take anywhere from 5 to 10 years for them to include all the relevant older cards.

I do find it weird that they'd make Historic have an entirely different cardpool from both Modern and Pioneer. On one hand it gives people a reason to play both Arena and paper Magic, but it's just... I dunno, too many formats.
