Why is there only 2 Fateseal Cards?

I mean, why bother making a mechaninc if you are going to only make it on 2 cards, and both being bad?(For those who don't know what fateseal is, its Scry, but for the opponent's deck.)

because, futuresight, both of those cards were printed in futuresight, so, fateseal will be a real and effective mechanic later, just not yet.

Both cards came from Future Sight, which is a set that included cards with flavor, abilities, etc that they were looking to include in later sets. Up until Theros block we only ever had 1 Enchantment Creature which was Lucent Liminid .

Spin into Myth is dope. Too expensive for modern, but powerful in EDH

Apparently Maro has been trying to find a place for fateseal, but it's an unfun mechanic that leads to unfun gameplay. And so we haven't seen it in any Standard legal sets for that reason.
Also, bad cards exist so the good cards can be good.

I don't think fateseal was bad, the reason why it wasn't put on other cards like scry was because it was just annoying to play against.

Pretty much what everyone already said. Its from future sight. We may see it some in a future set, who knows. I could see how it would be unfun to play against, but as a control player, bringing fateseal cards into standard would be awesome.

I think for it to be reprinted, it would have to be overcosted. Forcing a mana screw is no bueno. It would have to be costed like land destruction is. While that isn't the only use, its the most oppressive and most likely to be abused.

I would be very surprised if it ever got printed again due to the reasons already mentioned. If it did it would have to be sparingly and cost a very high amount like unforgivn said at which point it would be (while not completely) a lot less effective.

They could probably make a standard where it wasn't completely overpowered, but it would take a lot of effort specifically for that purpose, so its unlikely. The same could be said about riggers and contraptions with Steamflogger Boss . I mean, Woah! Our current meta couldn't withstand that for certain.

Also, before my last comment is criticized too much, the only serious part is the part about building around it (giving answers/alternatives, etc.) Otherwise, I just wanted a reason to mention steamflogger and the other future sight MIA, contraptions.

Oh man Hootiequack I'm so happy that you wrote that. The other day I had a lengthy discussion about contraptions in a card idea forum and they didn't seem to get the joke I was referring to.

Fateseal does seem like it could be a nuisance to people for a number of the reasons already presented, though I woul enjoy having it on my side as much as the next person. Having looked a little into future sight, what I want to see is how we could make Transfigure work without it being too overwhelming.
