The significance of Platinum Angel and Phyrexian Mana

This is a question that just popped into mind while looking over my artifact deck. In that deck there are 4 Spellskite . Now, my question is, if I were to have Platinum Angel on the field at 0 life along with a Spellskite or two. Let's say the Platinum Angel was targeted by a Terminate or something. Since I'm at zero, can I still pay the 2 life to bring me down to -2 life and redirect the spell at Spellskite , thus saving the angel and myself?

In order to pay life for a cost, you have to have at least that much life. If you're at less than 2 then you can't pay life as a substitute for a Phyrexian mana symbol.

For future reference, rules questions should be asked in the Q&A.

No. You can't pay what you haven't got. While Platinum Angel may prevent you from damage, life loss, and losing, you need to be able to pay the cost of the ability. You need to actually have life to pay life or Spellskite 's ability.

Rules questions belong in the Q&A.

You cannot pay life if you have 0 or less life. You must have life to pay. It's like how you can't pay mana if you have 0 mana available.

All right then. That answers my question. Thank you.

GoldGhost012, thank you for the heads up. Wasn't sure about it, now I know.
