Should I trade back?

Ok so a couple weeks ago my friend got back from the USA with a Jace, Architect of Thought he wanted to trade me (I played blue alot and had 3 Jace aot already. Now I play naya) and I offered him my Ajani, Caller of the Pride . We traded and I have been using Jace happily. I stopped playing my blue deck though when it got boring of using the same deck over and over. So I made a cat life gain deck and my other friend told me Ajani would be perfect in it, as it didn't have a good finisher. I don't use my monoblue any more and I have taken it apart. So, should I trade back Ajani?

If your friend is ok with it sure... but i say it depends on how your friend feels about it

We made this rule in our playgroup that you have to trade back. Because we play at school and when someone didn't trade back Pokemon cards they got banned.

I don't believe you should trade back, I look it as a transaction. All sales final. It's essentially an indian giver. It's one thing if someone feels they got ripped off or your just loaning a card with collateral but if it's a trade you can always try to trade back. Personally I don't think that's fair. For example say the other person is using it in their deck and you want to trade cards back for your gain ultimately, and that in it's self is very selfish and disrespectful. It shouldn't be trading then it should be loaning with collateral to help a friend but trades not so much.

@WovenNebula I can understand your argument, but I kind of wanted to get my first Planeswalker back... I mean he had done it to me with a card I used in my deck because he made a deck of the same colours. #AssembleTheLegion

your playgroup doesnt trade--you guys share a cardpool. agree with woven, a trade is final, but that doesnt seem to be the case here--so i say why wouldnt you trade back if thats how your group operates?

We originaly didnt have the have to trade back rule, then one of my friends was complaining of trading a Korozda Guildmage and we remembered the Pokemon card incident from like 3 years ago. So we made the tradeback thing

"Trade"

Trade is a system where I give you something and you give me something and then we keep those somethings because they are ours now.

I mean Christ, what happens if one of you wants to sell a card? Do you have to get permission signed in triplicate, buried for 100 years, copied, lost, eaten by a ravenous bugblatter beast of droll, excreted, found, and reassembled?

The things I've been saying is based on what the self proclaimed leader of our group said "If you trade someone a card its still your card". He could sell it or do what he wants. Sorry for every asking this question...

Ohthenoises says... #12

Pretty sure that your leader doesn't know how global economics

That's like saying that the underwear you bought at Wallmart isn't yours, it's still Wallmart's even though you just traded money for clothing.

Tell your leader Kim Jong Dude he's a sillyhead and that you guys should just not be bitches so nobody gets anything banned.

I think you guys should continue on with your card pooling/sharing but just recognize it for what it is. You guys will probably be more open to sharing/switching cards around if you do. I know a couple groups of players that pool their cards and resources. They end up getting to play a lot of different decks and cards. May be worth bringing up since you guys seem to trust each other.

card pooling is a fantastic way of increasing your card pool--its what my playgroup does (with an understanding that certain cards arent in the pool).

Card Pooling is nice for another reason, because when everyone else leaves magic, you get all the cards!

My family did this, and I took every Magic card when I moved to Uni. THEY ARE ALL MINE.

Not going to argue with your way of running things, I think pooling is awesome, but should only ever be done with people you'd trust with your life.

As for the trade-back question, if your friend wants to trade back, and you want to trade back, go right ahead. From what I gather, you traded Jace, Architect of Thought for Ajani, Caller of the Pride and since you wanted to make a new deck, you want to trade back. You haven't said anything about either side having any problems with trading back, so it should be fine.

With our group we all have our own cards, but we trade them and trade back. So if one person left we dont get their cards

August 23, 2014 5:49 a.m.

This thread blows my mind.

August 23, 2014 7:58 a.m.

No offense intended, but your group doesn't sound like much fun unless you guys get your $hit together and figure out what you're all doing. Pooling or just straight up trade. Personally I'd never pool because I do sell some of my cards when I want to acquire different ones and can't through trading. No hurt feelings then. And there are easy ways to get prices(android-mtg familiar app) so nobody gets ripped off when trading.

Pretty much what WovenNebula said and it sounds like you an your group need to all sit down discuss to things instead of a "self proclaimed leader" that can arbitrarily make rules that suit his bad trading habits.. that person sounds like the type that charges interest in trades if the other party initiated the trade, just seems shady

@WovenNebula when we had Pokemon cards someone traded a Pikachu for a legendary, I think it was Palkia. But when the guy wanted his Palkia back the guy said no. Then the teachers found and and the cards got banned

Just gonna throw this out there...

pooling things with a group is kind of janky. Think about it this way. Would you pool things like girls with a group of friends? Would you pool chicken wings? Would you pool condoms?

Neither of these would be satisfying. therefore, the pool system doesn't work. Just keep your shit, bro.

@FalloutCat so one guy ruined it all, so it's mainly due to school restrictions. All trades then should be done after school or when you hang outside of school because then they can't get involved legally. Anything at school that involves exchanging hands should be lending rather than trading. Just my two cents though.

gnarlicide you can't really say it doesn't work at all. In some extreme cases it doesn't but in lesser ones it does, like chicken wings.

August 24, 2014 2:33 a.m.

Nigeltastic says... #39

My "playgroup" (read: two other close friends who play magic) and I are just actual friends, so we just kinda give commons and uncommons, and low cost rares we'll never play back and forth. The only time we ever really actually trade is when it's a money rare/mythic, but we all want each other to have a good time and succeed, so we don't have any sort of weird trade back rule. If you trade someone a 'walker you don't want, then want it later and they're still using it, it looks like you're getting yourself a new 'walker, and I think that's really the only smart way to handle it. If for some reason we ran into a problem with this, we'll just discuss it like adults and friends and move on with our lives, because some things are worth spending $20 for a new card.

August 24, 2014 2:46 a.m.

gnarlicide says... #40

I suppose the chicken wings could work. But what about trade backs? Then we are back to the situation at hand...

Unless you get strange kicks from sifting through people poop for chicken wings, then be my guest.

Based on this and another post you made a while back about your playgroup: your playgroup sucks and its "leader" is the worst kind of asshole. Stop wasting your time with idiots.
