Why do people throw Phyrexian Obliterator into their decks all the time? A lot of the time it doesn't even fit into their themes.I don't see what's so special about it. Can someone enlighten me? Am i missing something here?

It's a combination of Phyrexian Obliterator being a good card and a portion of the deckbuilding community not really knowing what it's doing. While Phyrexian Obliterator is a great card and offers a great deal of offensive power in the current meta, it's also not meant for a lot of builds. If a card is good enough to be included in a deck, the theme shouldn't matter. However, if the card isn't good enough in the applications its being forced into, the player who's building or piloting that deck should notice and make the necessary changes to get the most out of the list.

Phyrexian Obliterator is just such an intimidating awsome looking BAD ASS card.. even if your manbase cant support it, its just fun to have..

it is a great target to reanimate as you can easily avoid paying 4 black mana that way, and agreed hes just massively intimidating you can't kill it that easily either with alot of deathspells saying non-black and obviously burn would be just silly lol. he is very much an 'answer this guy or things go wrong for you' type creature. and at so cheap 4cmc for a 5/5 trampler hes amazing value for mana too. another good point is the fact that he isn't legendary so you can copy him and have more shennanigans that way, of course others can too though! :-P

The opposite Phyrexian Negator effect may just be a part of it too. :P

When he enters the field, your opponent can say goodbye to his combat phase and then goodbye to his block step. With him on the field, it will prevent your opponent from attacking you if he's untapped. Or if you decide to swing with it, that's an almost guaranteed 5 damage unless your opponent really doesn't care about his permanents.

Well you can't really say that, because he paints a huge target on his head. Plus all of the Delvers and Restoration Angels flying over him don't help. But if it does stick, it's a force to be reckoned with. I usually only see it played in zombies though. That's pretty much the only deck build to handle the mana base.

The reason people would put it in their decks even if it doesn't fit the theme, is because it's just too good to pass up. It's like Tarmogoyf . Pretty much every green deck that can run it will, no matter what deck it is.

Whenever any source does damage to him that player must sacrifice that many permanents! I get that someone fitting it into a 3 colored deck is a little overambitious but if they have a way to cheat it on the field then by all means go for it. There are certainly answers for it, but that's true of every card even the titans. I mean the theme for the deck is obviously important to stick to but when you are able to put a creature that wins on its own if not dealt with is pretty significant. I personally would put it into a mono-black Lashwrithe deck that gives it some sort of dealing with flyers.
