Pack Design for Modern Masters 2015

Hey guys, I just picked up my first Modern Masters pack because that's what everyone is doing these days, and I grabbed a Noble Hierarch, which was sweet. I finally got to see the special Earth Day packaging for the pack: a blue cardboard wrapping for those who don't know. I'll put a link in a comment for everyone to see.

I personally love this packaging; it's fresh and much easier to carry/store the pack than the old wrapping (especially as I'm a collector of unopened packs going back to Scars of Mirrodin). Plus, it's much easier to open with the tear away seam in the back. I'd love to see it again in the future. What do you all think of this packaging?

I like the premise but I don't think they are the best. People have found ways of resealing them which can reduce individual pack sales.

However ripping the tear-a-way strip was more satisfying than I thought it would be.

I don't like the tear away band in the back, I wanted to reuse it to carry my sideboards.

I was a big fan of it. It felt so much easier to open, I didn't worry about bending my cards while trying to get them out of the packaging.

What I think is crap is the packaging they use at Walmart, RiteAid, etc. it's a cardboard hourglass shaped package overtop of the usual plastic wrapping. Sooo muuuch waaasted traaash.

They need to find something that can't be resealed and is created from recycled material. The whole game is made from paper and plastic; so they should use as much recycled material as they can

The new packs feel like you're opening up gum, which is super weird to do 24 times in a row. I also disagree with the fact that the cards move around and get scratched up while in the pack. I also disagree with the fact that you can reseal the packs (not that it isn't possible, but that it is a bad thing to have happen).

If WotC wants to experiment with recyclable materials, fine. This was a fair first effort, but there's so much room for improvement.

I think it's a step in the right direction, though. Maybe they'll adapt it and try it again with Battle for Zendikar. I hope.

So it's actually not the pack design that caused all the scratching and damage to the cards. The "second wave" (which isn't really a second wave, it's like a max of 8-12 boxes a week per store for the next few weeks), have all been perfectly fine, no damage. I think it had something to do with the way they were printing them.

As far as actual design goes, I really like it as long as the price of packs stays at $4. They are not actually re-packable, as it's super easy to spot the tampered with packs, and it allows you to re-draft boxes really easily.

And lastly, yes, it's biodegradable. So yea, think they should def do this for origins and bfz.

Anyone tested durability of material in rain?

I did unintentionally when I put out the recycling on a rainy day. As long as the rain hits the glossy side, then it is fine. But if any of the cardboard gets exposed it becomes really flimsy. I imagine this is because it makes it more biodegradable in non-industrial composters.

I love the new packs. Don't draft in the rain.

No but sometimes you leave your bag out in the rain etc.

The thing that makes me sad is that ta lot of places where you can buy packs don't have recycling bins, so a lot of the effort goes to waste.

But on the whole I think its a good idea. And I like that fact that I can store cards in the box even after I'ver ripped the tear off strip.
