Keeping Track of counters

General forum

I want to know how other people keep track of their counters. I know that some people use dice, but I think dice would be too expensive for what I need them for (My Elf Semi-Populate Deck). The deck I want to use them for would easily need at least 15 20-sided dice. Is there any equally effective ways that other people have thought of that don't require much money?

I've seen people use small 6 sided dices, that are sold in a box of 125 for around 10$...

Cheaper way would be to use some post it, or penny...

I use those 20 sided life counters that comes in event deck, from the vaults or prerelease.

Most people at my LGS just use small D6's. The LGS sells them in packs of 36

Sample of what the package looks like: http://www.trollandtoad.com/p227094.html

Many of them swapped rows to get different colors... using one color for +1/+1 counters, another for PW loyalty counters, another for life counters, another whatever counter/token you want...

By the way, i don't think your deck will need that as much dice as you said... You will win the game before you need that much, or your opponent will kill some creature at some point....

If I milled with no cards in my deck and graveyard except for doubling chant, I would have 23 9/9 creatures tied for my weakest, four 10/11s, four 42/42s, three 58/58s, and one 240/240.. I know that the chance of that actually happening is slim to none, but I want to prepare for the worst... or best!

IF that happens ZarBluestar your opponent will either scoop, or cast Supreme Verdict and say "I win".

Either way you don't need THAT many counters lol

Even if supreme verdict happened, Drove of Elves can't be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control. I am pretty sure supreme verdict doesn't count there. but I guess you're right about not needing as many counters. Besides, If I had that kind of firepower avalible, I probably would have killed them on the spot at a tournament. The deck is only intended to be for casual games with my friends though, and none of them have a Supreme Verdict , so I think I'm safe... for now.

Supreme Verdict doesn't target, your Drove of Elves would still be affected by it.

Again, you're probably not going to get the ridiculous situation you cited above. If you're really concerned about it, bring some post-it notes to make some on-the-fly tokens.

6-sided dice will actually work just fine for you deck, and here's why:
Most of you spells give +x/+x to creatures. Only Ivy Lane Denizen actually puts counters onto creatures. You can buy a set of 20-30 tiny 6-sided dice for 7-8 bucks at your local game store. Put the dice directly onto the card when creatures have counters on them, and if cards give all elves +7/+7 or something similar, have separate dice off to the side to keep track of that. Simple, cheap, and effective. Dice are always handy to have, anyways.

Just use change... Penny for 1 counter, nickel for 5 counters, etc. I use dice, but my friend has a turbomancer swagtusk deck which gets counters out the ass, and he uses change.

I like the Idea of change, but it only works if you have change on you...

Well, its the same as bringing dice with you, just change instead. You still have to bring it of your own volition. Just have some handy at all times, you'll be good to go.
