Fake Cards

So for my birthday yesterday I'd bought meself a big box of second hand cards for £25, most of them are fine and fun cards I'm excited to use. However the fifty basic lands I found in there are all fake. They feel strange for one, smell like burnt plastic, weigh more, are thicker, fail the light test and the green dot test. But why would someone fake basic lands? And now I don't know what to do with them?

That’s the genius of it. If there had been a Black Lotus in there, you’d know right away it was a fake. But to painstakingly mint tens of thousands of counterfeit basic lands for .01 apiece and sell them over the course of several decades for double that amount, it’s like free money :D

Ah yeah that makes sense Balaam__ now you've explained it! Crazy what someone would do for a bit of dosh! Thanks! And thanks Icbrgr I might do that for my ensuite. My sister likes big crazy out there earrings so I'm gonna punch a hole in two of them and get some hooks to make wacky earrings for her I think as well

They may have been used as placeholders for cards that were taken out of packs before they were resealed/resold. Making them lands makes it more likely that they’re discarded without further examination. After they’ve served their purpose (and assuming they’re not thrown out) they’ll linger forever like all other cards lol

shadow63 They're just some core 2019 (M19) bog-standard basic lands, no full art. There's 10 Islands, 10 Swamps, 10 Forests, 11 Plains and 9 Mountains.
