I apologize but I don't know to link a specific version of a card. The future sight print of goyf states the card types that it's ability pertains to. Planeswalker is listed but I didn't recall any planeswalkers having been printed when goyf was originally around (before or after goyf released in standard at any rate). Am I mistaken or was wizards just preparing for the future?

It was a hint to the future.

If I'm not mistaken, Lorwyn first introduced Planeswalkers and it was released later in the same year that Future Sight was. I'd say wizards had an idea that Planeswalkers were soon going to be a card type.

It was only one set before walkers were introduced in Lorwyn. Also worth noting, the cards printed with the "Timeshifted" frame are considered to be from the future of MTG. This article gives you an idea of what Wizards was thinking: http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtgcom/daily/af169

Tarmogoyf was printed in Future Sight,, a set that was based around showing off various titbits of Magic's possible future. This gave them plenty of opportunities for new mechanics (like Fortify or Transfigure), and also a new card frame, but it also hinted at new types of card such as planeswalker. This "glimpse of the future" turned out to be realized in the next block, Lorwyn.

This isn't the only time a card has been referenced before it was printed. Shield of Kaldra in Darksteel referenced a card that only came into existence with Fifth Dawn. In addition, Eye of Ugin referenced Eldrazi before they became a reality in Rise of the Eldrazi.

The original plan was to debut planeswalkers in Future Sight but there wasn't time to design what this whole new card type would do. So, as all these guys have said, they kept the Tarmy reminder text as a hint to the future. I'm pretty sure there's a maro article shomewhere that says this.

Yeah. Mark Rosewater talks about it in his Drive To Work Podcast about Future Sight. There's a lot of little tidbits like that in that set.

Okay cool. I figured it was some sort of "glimpse of things to come". Just a sanity check for me. Thanks everyone
